Scanning Barcodes
The Food tab includes a barcode scanner feature that makes it quick and easy to log food items by scanning their barcodes.
How to Scan a Barcode
- Tap the scan barcode button in the Food tab
- Scan the food item's barcode using your device's camera
- Review the populated data - If the food item is found in the database, its macros (protein, carbs, fats, calories) will automatically populate in the add entry form below
- Tap "Add Entry" to log the food
What Gets Populated
When a barcode is successfully scanned and the food item is found:
- Macros - Protein, carbs, and fats are automatically filled in
- Calories - The calorie count is populated
- Food name - The item name is typically included
You can review and adjust any of these values before tapping "Add Entry" if needed.
If the Barcode Isn't Found
If the barcode isn't found in the database, you'll be prompted to enter the macros (protein, carbs, fats, calories) and create a custom item. Once you save this custom item, it gets stored in your database, so the next time you scan that barcode, the macros will automatically populate. This way, you only need to enter the information once, and future scans of the same item will be quick and easy.
